The unit belonged to the 254th Infantry Division.

 

The certificates date from 1944.

 

Iron Cross 2nd Class, Wound Badge in Black and War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords.

 

The Iron Cross certificate has the ink signature of the commander of the 254th Infantry Division, Major General ALFRED THIELMANN (German Cross in Gold & German Cross in Silver). There were only 15 soldiers who were awarded both forms of the German Cross!!!
