Signed in his own hand by the commander of the LVI. Armored Corps, General of the Amored Troops FERDINAND SCHAAL (Knight's Cross 13.7.1940, German Cross in Gold 8.3.1942).

 

His role in Unternehmen Walküre was the overthrow of the NSDAP, as well as military control of Bohemia and Moravia. On the evening of July 20, 1944, he awaited clarification from Colonel General Friedrich Fromm, a co-conspirator in Berlin, but Fromm decided to betray all the conspirators after the assassination attempt failed. As a result, Schaal was arrested the next day on Heinrich Himmler's orders.
