After the capitulation Schniewind was in 1947 in war crimes trial against the High Command of the Wehrmacht, however, acquitted for his role in the occupation of Norway in 1940 (Employment Weserübung) to the accused, in 1948 and on 30 October 1948 dismissed from captivity.

The ink signature of Konteradmiral HELLMUTH HEYE is also located on the document.

On April 20, 1944, Heye was appointed to General Speakers special ordnance in the OKM and to the Commanding Admiral of the K-Verband (small battle units), which included the naval task force, explosive boats and frogmen in addition to the micro-submarines and manned torpedoes.

He was winner of the following awards:

- Officer's Cross of the Order of the Crown of Romania on January 15, 1943
